Research says:

Give a toast to the all-new 2009 edition of the Food & Wine Magazine’s Wine Guide and the debut of Anthony Giglio—the leading New York-based wine expert, writer, broadcaster, and educator who has completely revised and updated the book. Produced by America’s most trusted and popular publication on the pleasures of the table, Food & Wine Magazine’s Wine Guide remains the most authoritative of its kind. Reflecting the make-up of the wine market (and the layout of wine shops), the ’09 edition is divided into two major sections: Old World and New, with countries organized alphabetically in each. Giglio rates more than 1,000 of the most drinkable wines from the world’s major wine-producing regions, from the traditional giants (California, France, and Italy) to the exciting, up-and-coming winemakers of South America, Australia, Portugal, and Eastern Europe. His tasting notes are not only concise and easy to grasp, they’re in-depth, with expert assessments of a wine’s taste and qualities, plus essential information about its producer. The recommended wines cover all price ranges, but with an emphasis on ones that offer the best value for the dollar. In addition to its on-target suggestions, this edition is loaded with special features, including an invaluable section on pairing wine with food, a Bargain Wine Finder, a Wine Tasting Guide, The Year in Wine review, handy at-a-glance Vintage Charts, and fascinating sidebars by local wine experts surveying the latest trends and stars in their respective countries or regions.

I purchased this guide for my husband. He is very interested in wines and is always seeking information about wine. He finds this very useful and informative. He highly recommends it.

Well organized and informationally complete and associated with one of my favorite magazines. I like the simplified rating system for quality and price. However, it lacks any reference to Michigan wines which I have personally found to be as interesting and varied as many others, some at appreciably higher prices. Next year I want to see a broader range of U.S. wines. Also the wine pairings section is a bit snobbish in the sense that a more liberal interpretation might be acceptable. Let's not be snobbish.

This wine guide is written with a clear ear for those of us needing a wine guide that reads and travels with ease. Have no idea how it ends up being listed as written "by Editors of Food & Wine" when it says "by Anthony Giglio" in big bold type on the cover! In every other respect, though, it is the perfect wine guide and Mr. Giglio should get the credit he deserves on the Amazon listing.

The new wine guide is unbeleivable (great new format)- kudos to Mr. Giglio. It is easy to get lost buying wine and this guide really helps you sort out the best wines @ the best value. A great gift for all of the sommeliers in training!
